October 24, 2013 – The 14th Annual Tommy Tant Memorial Surf Classic presented by Nautica returns to Flagler Beach, FL, on November 9-10, 2013. This annual weekend event honors the life of Flagler Beach’s local surf brethren, Tommy Tant, who passed away in 1998 from an aortic aneurysm. This weekend celebration unites community through surfing, music, food, and art to raise money for scholarships, the local food bank, and The Marfan Foundation.
This year Red Bull brings a different style tow at contest to the Tommy Tant. In the past, Red Bull brought the Red Bull Night Riders, but this year Red Bull introduces a new twist: the Red Bull Top Whip Tow-At! This team performance contest allows the best aerialist surfers to pick their own jet ski driver. This invite only competition will take place at 12 pm Saturday, November 9th, during the Tommy Tant. Thousands of spectators will cheer top professional surfers Evan Thompson, Blake Jones, Jeremy Johnston, and Jesse Heilman as they tow-at the waves at whipping speeds over 30 mph. Best completed trick wins the team purse. This event is free to the public.
The Tommy Tant hosts over 300 surfers who compete in three pro divisions and 12 amateur divisions and is sure to draw thousands of spectators. Bright House Networks is the purse sponsor for the Men’s Pro. Flagler Orthopedic & Sports Medicine presents the Jr. Pro division. The crowd favorite Tadpole division is already teaming with brave young surfers and parents. Enter the surf contest online at www.tommytant.com by Sunday, November 3rd for a guaranteed spot.
Surf competition begins at 7:30am. The all-day out-of-the-water festivities include live art with Patrick Maxcy, raffle, sponsor booths, and DJ. Contestants and spectators are encouraged to book accommodations for a special rate at Hammock Beach Resort — the Official Hotel Sponsor.
New to the event this year, the Flagler Beach Jamboree presented by Nautica will take place Saturday night 6-10pm at Veteran’s Park in downtown Flagler Beach. This exquisite culinary experience features fourteen top local restaurants combined with a full night of live music, dancing, bargain filled silent auction, face painting- all held under one gigantic tent. It’s going to be quite the celebration! Ticket prices are family friendly. A family pass for two adults and two kids under twelve is $40. Individual tickets are $20, youth tickets are $10, and individual tickets are $5. Tickets sold at event.
Event proceeds support the Tommy Tant Memorial Scholarship, the Flagler Food Bank and The Marfan Foundation. The event raises awareness for Marfan syndrome and related disorders, many of which cause aortic aneurysms. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.tommytant.com.
