HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (August 7, 2011) – Nike (NYSE:NKE) today announced “FUS,” a German surf crew, won “The Chosen” summer video contest at the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, Calif.
The Chosen Contest is a one-of-a-kind socially driven video contest designed to give action sport crews the opportunity to showcase their style, skill and creativity in order to be chosen for an opportunity of a lifetime – a chance to travel with the Nike team and live like a pro while getting access to exclusive Nike products and experiences.
The FUS crew beat out 1,800 surf, skateboard and BMX crews who uploaded 1,700 videos in the contest. After contest judges narrowed the field down to nine crews, more than 75,000 votes were cast online and at the US Open of Surfing to determine the three finalists, The Wild Lyfe (USA), A Justando Itinerário! (Brazil) and FUS. A panel of 28 Nike athletes voted on the final three to select the champion.
FUS crew’s prize package includes a trip to an international break accompanied by an industry-leading film crew and a chance to surf with Nike athletes, V.I.P. passes to the 2012 US Open of Surfing, Nike product and $40,000 cash.
The Chosen video contest launched in June with the global “Just Do It” campaign featuring a host of action sports stars including skate legend Paul Rodriguez (P-Rod), Olympic snowboarder Danny Kass and surf prodigies Julian Wilson and Laura Enever.
The winning crew’s videos can be viewed at nike.com/chosen. Once the summer season concludes, snowboard and ski athletes can begin gearing up for The Chosen winter video contest, which launches in October.
