SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Sept. 1, 2014 – The O’Neill Coldwater Classic is back for the second year with its new invitational format giving unsponsored surfers the unique opportunity to compete for a winner-take-all grand prize yearlong sponsorship from O’Neill Wetsuits valued at $50,000. Like last year, an open call is being made to unsponsored surfers to submit videos for the opportunity to win a wildcard into the event. Applicants will be accepted Sept. 1st through Sept. 19th at http://www.oneill.com/cwc/.
To apply, surfers must provide a 30-second unedited action video representing his best surfing capabilities, a headshot and a completed application. Complete details can be found at http://www.oneill.com/cwc/.
All submissions will then be reviewed by a panel of judges with four being chosen for the Online Public Voting phase from Sept. 30th to Oct. 6th. The surfer in the one video receiving the most votes will earn an exclusive wildcard invitation into the 2014 O’Neill Coldwater Classic Invitational at Santa Cruz’s famed Steamer Lane Oct. 28th through Nov. 1st.
The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Specialty Event, which will take place on two days of optimal conditions during the holding period, will give 16 unsponsored professional surfers the chance of a lifetime, an O’Neill Wetsuits contract worth $50,000 in travel incentives and contest fees to chase their World Championship Tour (WCT) dreams.
