Between Miki Dora, Gidget, the invasion of Hollywood, and holding the distinction of being one of the most prestigious right-hand points in California, Malibu’s place in the pantheon of surf locales is unquestionable. As an invitation-only contest, the event looks to pull many of today’s top professional surfers together to compete under one banner. Between the likes of the Malloy Brothers, Rob Machado, and Evan Geiselman along with a legendary mix of Malibu locals invited to the event, the Malibu Invitational will surely be one of the most unique and eclectic contests in surfing.
More than just a chance for some of the best surfers in the world to compete at a locale steeped in surf lore, the Malibu Invitational also benefits a worthy cause in Malibu local’s Jimmy Gamboa’s TheraSURF organization, a community of surfers that focus on healing children with special needs by introducing them to surfing.
Prior to the start of the two-day event, surfers, fans and contest organizers will be meeting up at Duke’s in Malibu for food and Primo’s on August 27.
