Former Hawaiian Lifeguard and one of the first woman’s Pro Surfers, Rell Sunn was the symbol of the Queen of Makaha and Heart of The Sea. Her children’s Menehune Surf Contest was the starting point for many of the top Hawaiian surfers of today and this contest is now in its’ 34th year. Rell was a well known water woman, children’s educational advocate, sports caster for ABC Wide World of Sports, Hula Dancer, DJ, and senior advocate. When Rell traveled the world as a pro surfer her grace, talent and spirit of Hawaii made her the ambassador of Aloha to all she met. Sadly Auntie Rell passed away from breast cancer at the young age of 47, but her legacy lives on with plans for The Rell Sunn Bronze Memorial to be placed in Hawaii.
