Did you watch the Heritage Heat at the Hurley Pro last week? If not, take a moment, watch it below then come back, I’ll wait. In fact, I’ll still be there, re-watching it long after you’ve left—don’t worry, I’ll shut the lights off when I leave. Now take a look at the pic above, taken in a free surf just after the heritage heat ended (shot by Simon Anderson, by the way): Shaun Tomson is cranking out that full rail slice at 60 years of age, God bless him. Speed, power, and flow indeed. Everybody in the Heritage Heat surfed beautifully, and with a refined style more appealing than what some of the WSL surfers can muster. Tomson looked like he could walk right through into the Quarters. Seriously, get that dude a wildcard.

Anyway, yeah, it helps to have been one of the world’s best surfers, but age is the great equalizer, and if Tomson can surf like that in his 60s, then surely there’s hope for all of us.

Just look at this:
