With Jadson Andre’s victory over Kelly Slater today, the Dream Tour lived up to its name for the first time in 2010, and no, I’m not talking about the 3-foot waves on offer today. I’m talking about the Other Dream. For the last few years nobody on tour has put more energy into getting themselves onto the winner’s podium than Jadson. The self-satisfaction and pride he must be feeling right now will see him living in a dream for much longer than the hangover he will experience tomorrow.

As I watched the crowd react to Jadson’s victory, I was reminded why the ASP is responsible for millions of dreams all over the world. To see one surfer bear the fruits of his labor will undoubtedly spark the aspiration of other surfers from every nook and cranny on earth—all wanting a slice of that very same dream.

As big of a story as Jadson’s victory is, Kelly still remains the main focus on tour. With a 2nd in Brazil to follow his win at Bells—both in average conditions—he’s proved that he’s still more than capable of keeping up with every new kid on the block, even while suffering through a broken foot. Currently holding down the number-one seed in the ratings going into J-Bay and Teahupoo (two events he’ll be favored to win), the question now stands: Will anybody be able to overtake him? Kelly’s shown that he’s willing to surf through pain, he’s tasted the blood of a new crop of hopefuls, and now he knows that his 10th title is well within reach.

There you have it. Brazil proved dreams do come true and Kelly Slater is as close to supernatural as any athlete. As far as the rest of the top 45 are concerned…well I’m gonna look at everyone’s performance’s in these first three events and make a list of who’s going to the top and who’s looking like a flop.
