…And They’re Back

OK, I can't keep it in any longer. So while most of the world's eyes have been on Tahiti (for good reason), and Hurricane Irene and now New York, there's been some noteworthy surfing elsewhere — specifically in the Far East. Over the course of a couple missions we've managed to get a pretty rad crew into some pretty good waves and some pretty incredible surfing came out of it. Dane Reynolds, Yadin Nicol, John John Florence, Conner Coffin, Kolohe Andino and Dillon Perillo just returned and are, well, kinda reeling. But they're also all kinda banged up. Yadin managed to come home with eight screws in his ankle after a ricochet on an air broke his tibia. Dane says his ribs "are pretty bad but aren't broken." As far as his participation in the Quiksilver Pro New York event, he had this to say: "I don’t know about New York 'cause I'm having trouble getting off the couch and it starts in like two days." So maybe stay tuned…but if it's any consolation, seeing the surfing that got him those bruised ribs will be well worth the wait. Stay tuned for our December issue to witness it all (out on newsstands next month). A few quotations to ponder while we prepare it for you:

Dane: "Perillo and John John are rad. John John is my favorite surfer for sure! He's so fucking good." And we concur. You will too very soon.

Yadin: "I didn't think it was too bad at first. I just knew it was f–ked, though. It took me a little bit to get to shore and then I took my leash off and looked at it, and was like, 'Oh no, this is really done in.' I looked down and I kind of wobbled my foot to see if it was bad. My foot was just dangling. I probably shouldn't have wobbled it, that really sent me off and I was seeing stars straight after that."

Dillon: "To be serious I just like how respectful everyone is."

John John: "Watching all these guys is like watching a surf movie."

Nate Lawrence [photographer]: "Things got real loony yesterday afternoon…"

Again, stay tuned for our December issue to see what we're talking about — and to hold you over, we've got a pretty stellar little November issue about to bust onto newsstands as well. Yeah boys! —Travis Ferré
