We are magazine fans; we are party fans — and so arose the idea of giving each new issue of SURFING its own proper sendoff, with a monthly mixer of friends and associates.
Last night, at the A Restaurant in Newport Beach, CA, we unveiled SURFING's August issue to an intimate crowd of top-shelf humans. The A swelled with the SURFING family, pros from around the world, and beloved friends from brands like Analog, Hurley, RVCA, Nike 6.0, SUPERbrand, Channel Islands, Dragon, Reef and many more. Kai Neville's Landscape Altered and the Reef masterpiece Cancer to Capricorn (poly-bagged with all copies of the August issue) played silently on the bar's flat-screen, subtle enough not to distract from the party at hand. It was a success that will be repeated every four weeks until the sun explodes.
Clay Marzo found his way onto the August cover with a patented speed-tweak layback from the Landscape Altered trip to Indonesia. Clay is as SURFING Magazine as it gets, and he's so incredibly white-hot right now — we couldn't be more pleased to have him gracing the cover.
Thanks to everyone who helped us celebrate, and please pencil us in next month for September's Issue Release Mixer — it's going to be a doozy.
