Jojo Roper’s El Niño

White-knuckle waves from Baja to Half Moon Bay, and everywhere in-between

This year’s historic El Niño season brought out the best waves on the California coastline since, well, the last El Niño in ’97-’98, but it also brought out the best in local favorites like San Diego’s Jojo Roper, who can calmly muscle his way through mountainous XL-surf and slabby mysto reefs. From Baja to Half Moon Bay, Roper tore through the state’s most sizable lineups and created a powerhouse of a highlight reel along the way.
