Mason Ho’s First Time At Teahupoo

Looking back on a life-changing day

Undergunned and inexperienced, Mason Ho showed up at Teahupoo for the first time only to be greeted by an empty lineup and a swell so raw that he was trying to “take the day off.” Luckily, Bruno Santos was there to provide Mason with some words of encouragement before getting him to board the boat and paddle into the gauntlet. After pushing over the ledge (on a borrowed board, nonetheless) and being completely destroyed by a handful of South Pac monsters in the process, Mason finally found himself threading the pit at the End of the Road like the best of ’em. He even went so far as to say that Chopes just might be his new spot.
