We’re less than one week away from the beginning of the last Men’s event of 2014. Not only are we looking for an event winner here, but also this event will determine the 2014 world champion. Three surfers remain in contention for the world title; Gabriel Medina, Mick Fanning, and Kelly Slater. The possibility of a surf-off remains between Fanning and Medina if the cards fall just right. Playing into that will be the new wildcard system for Pipeline. In the past several years, there have been up to 20 wildcards allowed into the main event. With the new ZoSea management, the 2014 Pipe Masters has been adjusted to operate just like every other one of the 10 events on tour; there will only be two wildcards in the main event. A trials event will be held at the beginning of the waiting period to determine those two wildcards.
But until then, here are all the details for the upcoming Billabong Pipeline Masters.
