Jim Beam Surftag Competition Makes U.S. Debut on the California Coast

Boardriding teams vie for cash prizes and “No. 1 Surf Club in California” title in relay contest

WHAT: Teams of local surfers will hit the waves off Manhattan Beach on Sept. 19 in the first Jim Beam® Surftag® U.S. National Series. In the relay competition, each surfer must catch three waves and then return to the beach to tag the next team member.

Saturday, Sept. 19 will be the first of three qualifying rounds held on different Southern California beaches over the next two months. Jim Beam® Surftag® will award $25,000 in cash prizes throughout the series. In addition to competing for cash, teams will vie for the opportunity to advance to the championship round in November and claim the title of “No. 1 Surf Club in California.”

WHY: Jim Beam®, the world’s No. 1-selling Bourbon, supports surfers around the globe. Jim Beam® Surftag® started in Australia in 2001 and has grown into the country’s largest team boardriding competition. The U.S. version will attract dozens of competitors and crowds of fans to each venue along the California coastline.
