Surfers from Netherlands and Belgium to Hold Freesurf Contest in Morocco

For the first time ever, the best surfers from Belgium and The Netherlands are united for a freesurfing contest. No 20 minute heats in sloppy conditions, but 9 full days on the best moments to show their best moves! As our basecamp is in Imsouane, we have not only one of the longest points in front, but we’re within 1 hour away from Boilers, Anchor Point, Killers,.. and some secret spots up north! The riders judge each other every night by video and photo footage taken that day. Best Barrel, Best Air, Biggest Wave, Best Move, Longest Right, Best Overall,… At the end of the week we add up the scores and the winner can call himself the best freesurfer in Benelux! Just admit it! We’re looking at the best Benelux progressive surf contest ever! It’s called the BoardXHouse Invitational powered by O’Neill!

You won’t be able to follow live coveradge, but you won’t miss a thing either. BoardX Photographer Wiet Van Der Veken will be in the water shooting pictures in the line-up. There will be other photographers on the beach and 2 cameraman from Cirque Belgique will shoot from different angles!

Eight years ago BoardX launched a small surfcamp in Zarautz (Spanish Basque country). These days BoardX runs two extra surfcamps, one in Berria (Cantabria, Spain) and one junior surfcamp in Le Pin Sec (Gironde, France). During a summer BoardX hosts almost 3000 surfers.

The next landmark on the BoardX path is the BoardXHouse in Imsouane Morocco. An affordable luxurieus villa overcasting one of the longest rights in Morocco. The construction starting last year and all should be finished by early November.

The BoardXHouse
The BoardX-House is fully designed to the needs of surfers. When coming home after a session you can take a shower and rinse & dry your suit before entering the building. At the basement level a rack is availible to store surfboards safely.
Your appartment looks over the infamous 'Point de Imsouane’, this long righthander often peels over 700m. Each apparment has a balcony equiped with a BBQ.
All residents of the BoardX-house can enjoy the terrace on the roof and the joint pool. From the terrace you can enjoy the view over the second bay with a beachbreak and the rigthhander pointbreak called 'La Cathedral’.

The 3 apartments are identical and offer 3 bedrooms each. This adds up to a total amount of 8 beds per apartment. The aparment is equiped with a bathroom, shower, separate toilet, and equiped kitchen. The kitchen and living room are an open space overlooking the BBQ equiped balcony and the famous bay of Imsouane. In the basement each apartment has room to store about 20 boards.

Imsouane surfspot
We knew to stories and heared the rumours, but wouldn’t believe them untill we saw it with our own eyes…
Once you surfed the long peeling righthander in the bay you are hooked. At good days one can surf the wave over 700m and just easily walk back to the harbor wall and peddle to the peak. Most legendary pointbreaks work over rock or reef, Imsouane is blessed with a sandy bottom providing an incomparable wave for all. Even beginners can enjoy the blessing of a pointbreak here without any concerns.

The second bay has a slightly different orientation, better capturing the NW swells and providing an option for different wind directions. At the righthand corner of the bay breaks the righthander 'La Cathedrale’. At the left side of this second bay a reef sometimes provides smaller lefthanders. In the middle of the long beach everybody can surf the beachbreak, beginner to pro!
