Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. (August 19, 2009) – The 2009 YOLO Board Stand-Up Paddle Series culminated on Thursday, August 13, 2009, with the final race taking place on beautiful Western Lake at the WaterColor BoatHouse. The champion title “YOLO Board Cup Series” was awarded to South Walton Lifeguards Black for the men’s division and On the Coast Magazine for the women’s division. On the Coast Magazine consists of members Nancy Babin, Julie Ogle, Debbie Hunter, and Jackie Vreuls, and South Walton Lifeguards Black include Gary Wise, Sean Hughes, Joe Serrato and Justin Cook.
Beautiful clear skies and perfect paddling conditions were further complimented by the hundreds of spectators that came out in support of the paddlers for the final race which was followed by an awards ceremony and commemorative slideshow courtesy of race emcee Mike Sturdivant of BlueMountainSurf.com.
“YOLO Board and the local groundswell movement of stand-up paddlers have been working to fill the summer swell gap that is notorious along the Gulf Coast, and the race series has made good use of the extra daylight and constant desire to be on the water,” said race emcee Mike Sturdivant. “We have enjoyed some spectacular races in beautiful places and the variety of race venues re-introduced many of us to the childhood essence of summer-the excitement of exploring new locations to play and enjoying life outdoors. And, along the way we have crowned our new champions for the 2009 YOLO Board Stand-Up Paddle Series. Congratulations to teams “On the Coast Magazine” and “South Walton Lifeguards Black!”
