Airwalk Surfers Put Their Spin On Fun Footwear…

Airwalk team riders and pro surfers Anastasia Ashley and Warren Metcalfe are adding the title “designer” to their resume with their newest collaboration project, custom-designing a pair of casual sneakers. Both styles, Ashley’s Airwalk Rio Casual, and Metcalfe’s Airwalk Twin Gore, offer a taste of the athlete’s lifestyle influences, with added style points for affordability.
One of the hottest surfers on the pro circuit, a model and a serious fashionista, Ashley strove to incorporate all elements of her personality into the design. Of her creation Ashley said, “The inspiration for my sneaker stems mainly from the idea of standing out. I wanted to create a pair of statement sneakers at an affordable price, while at the same time crafting something that works with my own personal style, which I would describe as surfer-Barbie meets rock-and-roll bohemian.” With its bold and brightly colored graphics and vivid blue laces, Ashley’s Rio exudes the eye-catching qualities she was adamant about portraying.

For Metcalfe’s inspiration, he turned to his experience not only as a professional surfer, but also as an aspiring actor, world traveler and avid skater. Some of Metcalfe’s travels to date include surfing stints in Mexico, Europe, Hawaii, California and Indonesia. Metcalfe’s version of Airwalk’s slip-on Twin Gore features a Western bandanna-inspired print design set against a blue-and-gray grid pattern.

“I wanted a shoe that you can wear anywhere, anytime from the streets to the beaches,” Metcalfe said. “Traveling so much has repeatedly reinforced for me that a durable and easy pair of shoes is a necessity. Even if you’re not on the road constantly, it never hurts to have a pair of shoes you know you can count on, and at such a wallet-friendly price tag, you’d be silly not to have a pair like my slip-ons.”
