Paddle for Humanity Expands into National Three Race Series
California, Florida and Washington, DC
Fundraising events raise money for SurfAid International
Encinitas, CA - SurfAid International and Watermans Applied Science announced today that it has expanded its successful paddleboarding and stand up paddle event, Paddle for Humanity, from one stop in Dana Point, CA to a three-race national series. The 2011 event series kicks off in Dana Point, CA on Saturday, April 30th and then heads to Deerfield Beach, FL on Saturday, June 4th and Washington, DC on Saturday, August 20th. All proceeds from the events benefit SurfAid International - a non-profit humanitarian organization.
The expansion of Paddle for Humanity (PFH) from one event to a three-stop series makes it one of the few national series in Paddleboarding. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to take the Paddle for Humanity to the next level," says Watermans' Pete Stirling. "To be able to hold a national event series says a lot about the tremendous growth of paddling as a sport and the community that supports it. I think PFH is a great way to channel all that energy to benefit a great cause like SurfAid."
All three events feature fundraising platforms that encourage participants to raise money for SurfAid. "The event has been so successful over the past two years and it is a huge honor to watch the paddling and surfing community come together for a cause," said SurfAid International's Rob Farrow. "We are very grateful to Watermans' for their continued support and for their efforts in connecting the paddling community to SurfAid. It is our hope that through these kinds of events we can give the community a fun and engaging platform to get involved with SurfAid and support a very worthy cause."
Paddle for Humanity is sanctioned by the WPA and recognizes divisions in both Paddleboarding and Stand Up Paddle (SUP). In addition to the 6-mile elite race, there is a 2-mile fun paddle perfect for the novice or first-time paddler. Awards go to the top finishers in each division and the top three fundraisers at each venue. The top fundraiser from both Dana Point and Deerfield Beach will receive airfare and 3-nights' accommodation to attend the PFH event in Washington DC. Best of all, entry fees, fundraising and sponsorship make a real difference - providing much needed funding for SurfAid's programs in the Mentawai and Nias islands.
The Paddle for Humanity will sell out, so don't miss your chance to participate, sponsor, donate or volunteer. Learn more at www.paddle4humanity.org.
A special thank you to event sponsors including: Watermans: Applied Science, Surfline.com, Hobie Surfboards, Infinity Surfboards, Rogue SUP, Quickblade Paddles, Sambazon, Johnson Big Sticks, and Kona Brewing.
