Event Fundraiser at Wahoo’s Kahala – Friday, April 29, 6:30-10pm
Win a surfboard autographed by the cast of Hawaii 5-0!

Non-profit group uses surfing to push possibilities for those living with paralysis.

On Saturday, April 30, Life Rolls On Foundation (LRO) will bring its award-winning adaptive surfing program, They Will Surf Again, to Kapolei, HI. As LRO’s signature quality of life program, They Will Surf Again (TWSA) is a series of bi-coastal events that empower paraplegics and quadriplegics to surf despite paralysis.

Among the adaptive surfers will be four-year-old Maile Lamaku, who will surf for the first time in front of her extended family. “I can’t wait to see my grand-daughter surf,” said Della Young of Honolulu. “When Maile said she wanted to surf, we didn’t think it was possible because of her paralysis, but through programs like TWSA, it reminds us that nothing is impossible. Maile’s future has no limits!”

Underwritten by the generous support of the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA), Rollx Vans, and Global Surf Industries (GSI), TWSA serves as an exciting surfing experience as well as an opportunity for young people with spinal cord injury to develop friendships and build peer support networks. They Will Surf Again is provided at no-cost to participants and surfing experience is not required to partake as an adaptive surfer. Event sponsors for They Will Surf Again-Hawai’i include Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa, Wahoo’s Kahala, Duke’s Waikiki, Gayla Elizabeth Photography, Lulu’s Waikiki, Ba-le, Leonard’s Bakery and Function Drinks. Community partners for the event include the U.S. Navy, AccessSurf Hawai’i and Ty Gurney Surf School.

To celebrate LRO’s inaugural visit to Hawai’i, Wahoo’s Kahala (4614 Kilauea Ave., Honolulu, HI) will host a TWSA celebration on Friday, April 29 from 6:30-10 p.m., where a portion of food and beverage proceeds will be donated to Life Rolls On. There will be live entertainment by Kahiau, appearance by LRO founder Jesse Billauer, and prizes including a surfboard donated by Aaron Rutledge of Star Beach Boys that is autographed by the cast of Hawaii Five-O.

“Wahoo’s has a rich tradition of giving back to the community, so we are pleased to support Life Rolls On,” said Noel Pietsch Shaw, partner of Wahoo’s Fish Taco Hawaii. “What LRO is doing to support the paralysis community in Hawai’i is inspiring, so we encourage everyone to join us in extending warmest aloha to Jesse Billauer and all of Life Rolls On.”
