Just a few days ago, the WSL announced that Dane Reynolds will be competing in the Quik Pro France as a wildcard. Throwing Dane into the mix is a curveball we're all craving; when Dane takes to the lineup, we can't take our eyes off of our screens. But yesterday, Dane threw his own curveball by announcing that he'll be donating all of the money he makes from the Quik Pro to charity.
Here's the lowdown from Dane's Instagram:
"So I just got news I'll be in the Quiksilver Pro France next week and I'm gonna donate my prize money to someone that needs it more than me. I usually donate to animal stuff (wildlife rehabilitation places, animal shelters, ASPCA) but any suggestions on foundations with a good cause?"
As of today, Dane's received more than 800 comments suggesting charities that could use some help. Now, it's no secret that Dane's held one of the strongest contracts in the industry, but it's refreshing to hear that one of surfing's most influential figures is taking a philanthropic route. If for nothing more than putting out some good karma, Dane just solidified his place on my Fantasy Surfer team. Now here's hoping he does damage, for the sake of doing some good, at the Quik Pro.
