Anti Canvas: A Showcase of Boardshort Art for Charity

Hurley and Contrast Magazine are proud to present the third annual Anti Canvas: a showcase of boardshort art for charity on Friday Dec. 2, 2011. This year the event is moving to Nextdoor, which is located on 43 North Hotel Street. Doors will be open from 5-9:30 p.m. for the art show and silent auction. Entry is free before 9:30 p.m. After-party will follow till 2 a.m. A complete list of confirmed featured artists are on the flier attached to this release.

This event will be held in conjunction with the First Friday Art Walk and all of the proceeds will benefit Pow Wow Hawaii and Japan Disaster Relief Fund.

Last year, more than 30 local and international renowned artists submitted their artwork and watched it come to life on a pair of Hurley boardshorts.The event raised $4,090 for local charities and gave artists a whole new canvas to express themselves.

Hurley upped the ante last year by awarding Honolulu-based, fine-artist Kamea Hadar $1000 for creating the boardshort that generated the highest bid

Hurley will utilize a “sublimation” process to make a one-of-a-kind board short with the art that will be auctioned off for the charities. This manufacturing method uses a heat transferring process that preserves the integrity and details of the design.
