Clash of the Legends Returns to Reef Hawaiian Pro 2012
Coming to the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, on Nov. 12-24, the Reef Clash of the Legends presented by Bud Light Lime returns to the historic Haleiwa beach park. Running in conjunction with the Reef Hawaiian Pro, the Clash of the Legends pits four of surfing’s most mythic rivals against one another. Featuring former Clash of the Legends champs Tom Curren and Sunny Garcia, Mark Occhilupo and Hawaiian dynamo Kaipo Jaquias will round out this year’s competitors. The Reef Hawaiian Pro is the first jewel of the $1M Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
With a tally of five world titles among them, and $20,000 in prize money up for grabs for the Legends, they will surf in three 25-minute heats throughout the ASP Prime Reef Hawaiian Pro, waiting for the optimum conditions to come together to paddle out and go to work.
“Old rivalries never die. Time may pass, you may become friends over the years, but you get out in the water and the competitive juices start flowing. You go out there wanting to win,” said Reef team rider Ross Williams, who took out the Clash of the Legends at Haleiwa last year.
Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Triple Crown of Surfing, hydrated by vitaminwater, the Clash of the Legends brings an air of legacy and tradition to surfing’s most prestigious contest series.
Sunny Garcia added, “Haleiwa was pumping all weekend. Super stoked to get some waves under my belt and can’t wait to defend my titles with the Reef Hawaiian Pro and Clash.”
