Gallery: Micronesia Mission With Asher Pacey, Benji Brand Filming For Snapt5
When it comes to surf tripping, flexibility is the golden key to success. Case in point, a couple weeks ago filmmaker Logan Dulien marshaled an elite strike force to chase a bombing swell down to Micronesia with the hopes of scoring footage of all-time P-Pass for the forthcoming release of “Snapt5.” Aussie style lord Asher Pacey and Hawaiian tube hound Benji Brand signed up for the tour of duty and the crew was off.

Tracking one of the biggest swells of the winter, the winds were expected to be a bit dicey, but Dulien and crew decided to roll the dice and see what happened. After all, forecasts aren’t always right. Figuring the risk was worth the reward, they booked their tickets, hoped a flight and found their way to Micronesia. And with fingers crossed and hope in their hearts, they were greeted by the same nasty winds the weather forecast was calling for.
“The swell could have been good for P-Pass, and nobody’s really been down there for a few years, so we figured we’d give it a go. It ended up being too big,” explained Dulien. “Sometimes the models will call for wind, but you get there and it’s not a problem. Forecasting local winds somewhere as remote as that, it’s hard to do unless you’re on the ground there.”
With a full film crew on hand to document the trip, the crew was forced to rethink their plans. It doesn’t take much for talent like Pacey and Brand to put on a show, and while the waves at P-Pass weren’t the mythic, blue barrels they were after, they ended up scoring some fun, rippable walls and coming away from the trip with a story to tell and a few clips to share. Here are some photos from the adventure to prove that while it wasn’t all-time, it most certainly was worth the effort, and definitely better than sticking around home.
