Top Junior Seeds Prepare for ASP Grade-4 Supergirl Pro Junior

ccsgpjpre09bigOCEANSIDE, California (Wednesday, August 12, 2009) – The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Grade-4 Supergirl Pro Junior is set to host 16 of the top women’s ASP North America Pro Junior Series competitors at Oceanside Pier on August 15 and 16, 2009 and has added an additional prize purse to make this year’s Supergirl Pro Junior increasingly interesting.

The ASP Grade-4 event marks the second of three stops on this year’s Women’s ASP North America Pro Junior Series, with all girls vying for a spot on to next year’s inaugural ASP World Junior Tour. Once qualified, America’s finest up-and-coming competitive talent will tackle a global contingent of prodigious surfing youth in an attempt to claim the title of ASP World Junior Champion.

Sage Erickson (Ojai, CA), 18, is currently sitting in second place on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series and is fresh off of a runner-up finish at the ASP Grade-4 U.S. Open Nike 6.0 Pro Junior. The young Californian nearly claimed the event and is hungry to make the Supergirl Pro Junior her first career ASP Pro Junior Series victory.

“My results have really boosted my confidence,” Erickson said. Also, seeing Courtney (Conlogue) do as well as she’s doing has really encouraged me in the sense that the California girls have what it takes to get great results in great contests and being so close in both finals has made me hungrier than ever. A victory is what I’m craving and I’m working hard at to try and satisfy it.”

The talented regular-footer has been significantly improving her competitive game and dedicating her time towards her professional goals.

“Recently I have been working with Ian Cairns,” Erickson said. “He’s been working a lot with me on the fundamentals and heat strategy and things that I think I’ve lacked in the past. Each day is a new one and I’ve been incorporating the things he’s taught me with the talent I’ve been blessed with so far.”

Erickson’s victory will be no easy feat however, as she will tackle reigning Women’s U.S. Open champion Courtney Conlogue (Santa Ana, CA), 16, at the upcoming Supergirl Pro Junior event.
