17 Year Collaboration Between Thomas Campbell, Josh Hall Comes To Fruition In New “Le Sliviar” Glider Model

Inspired by Skip Frye’s classic Eagle design, this board has some get-up-and-go in it.

The Padres aren’t the only big deal in San Diego at present. This weekend, after 17 years of experimenting, shaper Josh Hall and artist Thomas Campbell are set to officially release their new model they’ve dubbed “Le Sliviar.” Creating more than 25 iterations of the model before finally landing on this finished version, the board shares the DNA of a Skip Frye Eagle, but the duo took special care to refine the overall volume of the board while evolving its performance characteristics.

“It’s a very reduced board compared to the traditional glider,” Campbell explains. “They turn and maneuver very well and have a sleek feeling for such a big board. I like a 10’10”, 22” wide, a thin 3” thick, and a bit stepped in the nose for less swing weight.”

Artist Jeff Canham

Not just your average run-of-the-mill surfboard launch party—that’d be boring—Campbell and Hall have recruited some of their friends to join the unveiling. Taking place at Loft 77 in Del Mar on Saturday, October 12, fellow artists Andy Davis and Jeff Canham (a former Art Director for SURFER) will be on hand showing off their work on some fine looking custom jobs. Legendary skate stylist Ray Barbee will be laying down tunes, Sean Tully will be doing live silkscreening, while Evan Schell is creating a video installation for the affair.

Supported by Vissla, food and drinks will be available. Doors open at 6:00pm. With the Boardroom Show taking place in Del Mar this weekend as well, the time’s never been better to dive into the latest and greatest in beautifully crafted surfboards.
