Florida Surfer Dies After Collision With Daytona Beach Pier
After suffering an accident while surfing Sunglow Pier in Daytona Beach, and subsequently being place on life support, 49-year-old Jorge Alvarado of Port Orange has passed away as a result of his injuries.
Earlier this week SURFER reported that on Friday, September 13, at approximately 9:00am, Alvarado had been surfing on the south side of the pier when it’s believed he hit the bottom and was then forced into a piling and then suffered a head injury. Surfers in the area responded and were able to get him to the beach, where lifeguards attempted to resuscitate him. He was then transferred to a nearby hospital, where he was placed on life support.
“It is with a heavy heart that Jorge has passed away and has gone home to be with the Lord,” shared Justin Gore, the organizer of a GoFundMe campaign to help Alvarado.
“Jorge, rest in paradise brother…..Your spirit was as vibrant as the ocean waves you loved to ride. You brought joy and adventure to everyone around you. You were always there to lift others up, encouraging everyone to push their limits and embrace life fully. Your passion for surfing was matched only by your love for your friends and family,” Gore continues.
“We’ll carry your memory with us every time we get in the water, knowing you’re out there in the surf, riding the biggest wave of all watching over each and everyone of us.”
The GoFundMe campaign has raised over $18,000 so far with a goal of $25,000.
Our deepest condolences go out to Alvarado’s family and friends at this most difficult of times.
