Next month, starting on March 16th, former WQS competitor Blake Johnston will be attempting to break the former Guinness World Record for the longest surf session, in an effort to raise awareness for youth mental health.

While raising money for the Chumpy Pullin Foundation, Johnston will attempt to surf 500 waves in just 40 hours–an effort that, if achieved, will best current world record holder South African Josh Elsin, who ripped a total of 455 waves in 30 hours, 11 minutes. Johnston’s main goal, however, is to provide access to those struggling with mental health issues.

Johnston lost his own father to suicide, and this year marks the 10th anniversary of his father’s passing.

“We want to target the youth and we want to make sure there’s some practical things that people can take into their daily lives that is more than just a conversation,” Mr Johnson told Sky News Australia in the clip below.
