Over the past few years, the iconic Honolulu city surfboard racks in Waikiki have suffered back-to-back-to-back fires. The worst blaze happened in October of 2021, which destroyed over 500 boards, most belonging to local residents who stash their gear near the beach to avoid lugging everything to and from their homes.

The arsonist who started the fire was just sentenced yesterday to 10 years in prison and fined  $414,000 in restitution. According to Hawaii News Now, the man was caught on camera picking up a lighter he found behind the nearby police substation.

The Honolulu Fire Department said back in October of 2021 that the fire caused more than $650,000 in damage.
