CLIP OF THE WEEK: Ryan Callinan
For years, Newcastle’s Ryan Callinan has been a fixture in the media, linking up with photographers all across the world and starring in a mix of acclaimed online edits. But this year, Callinan’s waded into deeper water by qualifying for the World Tour. Although he narrowly missed out on a win in the opening heat of the season, we’re predicting big things for the 23-year-old.
Timmy Curran’s Still Got It
Throughout the late-’90s and well into the 2000s, Timmy Curran’s led the progressive charge in surfing, honing the backflip and a slew of other maneuvers. But over the past few years, he’s stepped out a bit from the limelight. And while he may no longer be front and center, his surfing is just as polished as ever, as evidenced by this clip.
Yago In Costa
You’ll see Yago show up in this column quite a bit. And for good reason: He’s one of the most graceful and slick surfers in the game. Take the next two-and-a-half minutes and marvel as the Brazilian draws some of the cleanest lines we’ve ever seen through this Costa Rican lineup.
Jordy in Mozambique
This clip of Jordy at home in Africa training for Snapper left us fired up for the big man’s 2016 debut at Snapper. With any luck, he’ll be able to replicate the approach he took at this point in Mozambique and apply it to his heats on the Gold Coast.
Carissa Moore at Rincon
World Champ Carissa Moore spent some time tightening up her act at the Queen of the Coast in preparation for the Roxy Pro at the Gold Coast. After watching this edit, it would be hard to imagine anyone else but her standing on the podium come event’s end.
