Wash Off the Wave Pool With This Edit of All-Natural Tubes
Bobby Martinez wears his heart on his sleeve and is known to call things like they are. Back in an interview in 2017, the Santa Barbara icon expressed his thoughts on wave pools, stating that “[Building] wave pools is just being desperate, hoping to make surfing something it’s not.” He went on to say that “Wave pools will never be the answer.” Martinez eventually gave in to surfing a man-made wave, when he traveled to Texas with Parker Coffin earlier this year and proceeded to rip the bag out of the mechanical ramp situated in Waco.
Regardless of what Bobby might think of wave pools now, or if he enjoyed the Freshwater Pro this weekend, from a spectator standpoint, his newest edit is a sight for sore eyes. After three full days of watching the same artificial wave break over and over again in mechanical monotony, Bobby Martinez’ newest edit feels like gulping down a refreshing glass of water on a hot day. Maybe because it’s filled with hollow, honest-to-god real waves (situated, of course, along the 805) or perhaps it’s because Martinez is a barrel whisperer and is still one of the most exciting tube-hounds to watch. Whatever it is that makes this edit entertaining, give us more Martinez.
