SURFER Awards 2017: Best Short Nominees

All the surf action at a fraction of the time

We live in the golden age of the surf short. Less-than-full-feature-length web videos arrive in floods these days. Some are mere quick-hitting bursts of frenetic action meant for full amperage or to inspire maximum stoke explosions. Others are languidly-paced and thoughtful — biopics, maybe, or stories of a place. Either way, they fill a crucial niche in our surf film viewing: the perfect lunch break entertainment. The 2017 SURFER Awards nominees for Best Short are a blend of all of the above. From shorts on surfers like Jay Davies and Russell Bierke to the high-wattage ridiculousness of the floating dock session, every one of these nominees are bite-sized bits of pure surf joy. Who do you think deserves the vote? What was your favorite short this year? Let us know in the comments.
