It’s relatable. I guess that was one of the major perks of watching today’s competition at the Oi Rio Pro. The girls took the main stage today, finishing out Rounds 2 and 3 in Kirkland brand, value pack, beachbreak conditions. No candycoating here, it looked like a struggle. But how do you think these ladies got here? The road to the CT is littered with countless sessions in waves far less appealing than this.
At the end of the day, Conlogue, Gilmore, Fitzgibbons and Wright all made their way through Round 3 with a heat win and a ticket straight to the Quarters, so that whole theory about the best surfers getting the short end of the stick because of faulty conditions doesn’t quite apply here. They’re the best in the world for a reason.
When the women resume we’ll see the Round 4 matchups you see below clawing their way at another chance for the Quarters. Stay tuned right here, and follow @TheRoadsoda for more behind the scenes coverage from Rio.
