Randazzo Wrap Up

While Dean Randazzo began his fourth cancer treatment in San Diego this weekend, a crowd of surfers gathered at Casino Pier to raise money for the New Jersey legend. Here's what organizer Nick Bricker had to say:

"The show of support for Dean was nothing short of amazing. Around {{{200}}} people showed up at the beach in February in the middle of winter to support. The weather was terrible and the waves awful but the vibe was as good as it gets. Surfers from the Outer Banks, Virginia Beach, Jersey, and New York showed up to support Dean. You would have never had known it was the middle of winter with the turn out. It seemed no one cared about the weather and poor surf but were just as stoked as they could be to help a legend.

Hundreds of people flocked to the beach to support and check out the action going down. The day's top winners were Open shortboard and Pro going to Sam Hammer with Randy Townsend in a close second. Open Women went to Sarah Dodds and Open Longboard to Harry Gale. After the contest there was a huge party at the Crabs Claw in Lavallette with a raffle to further help the Cause. It was packed with over {{{300}}} people. It was great to see the whole community come together to support a true East Coast surfing legend! After all was said and done it looks as though the day raised upwards of $20,000!

Even as Dean goes through another treatment, he continues to inspire. As one of the posts on DeanRandazzoCancerFoundation.org notes: ‘I never met Dean, but after hearing and seeing all of this love and getting to know Dean better through his friends and family I can honestly say I have a hero and his name is Dean.'”

Anyone interested in continuing the support, make your check out to Dean Randazzo, and send it c/o Nicholas Bricker
