Design for Humanity

One of a kind art. Unique fashion pieces. Shiny Toy Guns. DJ Vice. Dancing, dancing and more dancing -- all for a very worthy cause. Thursday night Billabong Girls launched their Design for Humanity project, a charitable division of Billabong that creates one off art and fashion pieces to benefit environmental and humanitarian causes.

The first event was held at {{{Avalon}}} and {{{Spider}}} Club in Hollywood and could not have been a bigger success. Thousands of people packed into the sold out nightclub to peruse the art and fashion before the real party started. At 9:30 p.m. the lights turned down and fluorescent bulbs blasted "Billabong" behind the runway that jutted out into the crowd. Models strutted their stuff over the crowd decked out in the new line, which features unique patterns, polka dots, and stripes -- all done in custom tropical cuts which can be bid on at if you missed the show.

Immediately following the runway show, LA's own art rockers Shiny Toy Guns blasted into their song "It Starts With One," and continued the high energy dance party with "Le Disco," rocking the party straight into DJ Vice's floor burning set that followed.

With this being only the first event of many for Design for Humanity, the fun has just begun. Make sure you get to the next event, bid on some art, make some donations and dance your heart out. All funds from this first event will benefit SurfAid International. SurfAid benefits families across the Mentawai Island chain and aids them with health, education and disease prevention programs. Make sure you check out the website to bid, participate and be a part of this project. Thanks, Billabong.
