ISA Junior World Championships Day Three

A great third day of competition for the USA Surf Team was lead by the Girl’s squad as Courtney Conlogue was amongst the stand-out performers of the day.

Courtney along with Amy Nichol took wins in their second round heats whilst Sage Erickson and Kaleigh Gilchrist secured seconds to have all the girls squad into winners Round 3, the best performance so far by the three divisions contested by the USA Surf Team.

In the Men’s the USA continued it’s inconsistent performance when the Under 16’s lost the Evan’s, Thompson and Geiselman to Repercharge/Losers the only bright spark being Dane Zaun who launched his trademark “Air Zaun” to come from behind for a strong second behind again a surprising New Zealander Matt Hewitt. Geiselman finished third in this same heat which he lead mid-way in a hotly contested match-up that also included another of those Kiwi’s Ryan Hawker that have been our nemesis in the early rounds.

In Under 18’s yesterday’s star Cory Arrambide never got going in his Round 3 winners heat and now joins his Under 18 team-mates Cody Thompson, Trevor Saunders and Micheal Dunphy in the dog-fight in the Repercharge/Loser’s rounds where also today a lot of Hawaiian’s, South African’s, French, and Brasilero’s joined them with a second chance to fight back to the finals.

The Aussies were still in command with a near perfect performance with only one competitor relegated to Repercharge/Losers.

At this point in this marathon event Dane Zaun has proved to be the USA Team’s top performer and is only a few heats away from the chance at a medal.

The onus for the USA Surf Team is on the men to battle there way out of the Repercharge/Loser’s much like three year’s ago in Tahiti when the US came back to win the team Silver medal.
