Apparently eleven world titles, a sustainable clothing line, a surfboard company and a groundbreaking wavepool haven’t quite satisfied Mr. Kelly Slater - because he’s got his sights set on fixing something much larger than any wall of water, chunk of fiberglass or baby alpaca knit beanie could ever solve.
The above video is a fifteen minute interview Slater recently did with Luke Rudkowski, founder of We Are Change - a nonpartisan, independent media organization comprised of individuals and groups working to expose corruption worldwide. The dapper fellow in the puka shells asks Slater a series of riveting questions, probing the champs thoughts on issues like GMO testing, the 2016 election and the events of 9/11 - not exactly the lightest of dinner conversations. Kelly fires back to each with an assortment of alternative views and the two chuckle in agreement.
Do what you will with the information at hand, but the one thing that’s for sure is that the man is not just a surfer - he’s a humanitarian. All those deep blue eyes want to see is in this world is truth and peace and maaaaybe the occasional eight foot a-frame. With Kelly’s track record, it’s pretty apparent that he’s a guy that tends to get what he wants, no matter the circumstances. Could we be seeing a hanging of the jersey in a few years to pursue a career kissing babies? Kelly Vs. Kanye in 2020? Who knows, go surfing! -Dayton Silva
