Ola Eleogram – MAUI, HAWAII

First Place, Junior Mens, American Surfing Championships

He may have been confused on the beach, but it all became clear once he hit the water. In Huntington for the inaugural American Surfing Championships, Maui powerhouse Ola Eleogram thought he was surfing for a slot on the US Team. The truth is, he was only there for bragging rights and a goodie bag. Not only is the ASA the "event before the big one" in the new Surfing America amateur contest structure, Eleogram had already qualified for the Hawaiian team. Still, the news didn't faze him. Along with Casey Brown, TJ Barron and Hank Gaskell, Ola and the 50th state dominated the dribbly conditions at Huntington, priming them for another big Hawaiian showing at the NSSA Nationals at Lowers. With a strong, polished approach and some serious lower-body horsepower, look for 18-year-old Eleogram to keep pushing ahead – no matter what he's surfing for.
