Patagonia to Give Away 100% of Black Friday Sales

Patagonia is the most environmentally conscious, major business in the surfing world.

Small mom & pop companies may have less global impact or may put more direct effort into conservation, but as far as big companies go, Patagonia is unprecedented. And that was even before their latest announcement.

If you weren’t aware, Patagonia has always donated 1% of its sales to grassroots environmental groups, in hopes of making at least a small difference in the fight against the corrupt, short-sighted business practices that are destroying our globe. For this Black Friday, they’re revving things up a bit — by a multiple of 100, actually.

That’s right, 100% of Patagonia’s 2016 Black Friday sales will go to core environmental groups. This number is expected to surpass $2 million, which is a huge contribution to the health of our planet and ecosystems.

Patagonia has noted that the recent elections played a role in their decision. “The threats facing our planet affect people of every political stripe, of every demographic, in every part of the country,” Patagonia CEO Rose Marcario stated in a company blogpost. “We all stand to benefit from a healthy environment.”

Thanks to our president-elect’s vow to dismantle “overly-restrictive” EPA regulations, and his subsequent appointment of climate change contrarian Myron Ebell to head the EPA transitional team, our country and our world are headed in an exponential downward spiral. And no, that’s not a political stance — that’s just science.

Luckily there are still companies like Patagonia who do the right thing, even when they don’t have to.
