Now matter how pretty she can be, Pipeline is a very serious wave with very serious consequences.

It can give you some of the best moments of your life. Or it can take your life away. Earlier today, we saw John John Florence experience the joy of winning the 2015 Volcom Pipe Pro. The contest ended early but the waves stayed put. An afternoon freesurf ensued, with talent from all over the globe trying to get a piece of that Pipe. Tahitian surfer Tuhiti Haumani was among the crowd. Tuhiti is a Volcom team rider and a familiar face around the North Shore, specifically at Pipe. This afternoon, he fell on a wave and came up unconscious. It is thought that he may have hit his head on his board. A stern current made it difficult to rescue him, but North Shore lifeguards were eventually able to pull him in and give him CPR. They were able to give him a slight pulse before he was whisked off to the hospital. That’s all we know right now, but we’ll bring you more details as they surface.

All accounts suggest that Tuhiti is an amazing man with an amazing smile. Please send thoughts, prayers and love in the direction of Ehukai.
