Three weeks ago, this stretch of sand was riddled with solid SE swell, cartoonesque tubes spinning down the point, and an abundant collection of cheek wrenching grins. Today, on the other hand, was a different scene.Wade, powering his way to a win. Photo: Hammonds
The Quik and Roxy Pro trials began and ended earlier today with the oh-so-brut Wade Carmichael and recent world junior champ Isabella Nichols earning their way into the main event. There was no pulsing swell, or spinning tubes, but you can bet there were plenty of smiles as a couple of lifelong dreams of performing on the big stage were realized. The surfing was great, but the Insta photoshoot down the beach was amazing.
Wade has been known to do damage, and despite the weak, dribbly conditions out at Snapper today, the twenty three year old specimen tore things to pieces with no sign of struggle. Nichols’ attack was clean and calculated, dicing a few waves from top to bottom. Both are worth paying attention to as they could shake things up come Round 1 of the main draw.Isabella Nichols, gracefully victorious. Photo: Hammonds
There’s word of the contest getting started tomorrow, possibly at D-Bah. Stay tuned as more trickles in.
Now here’s a treat:
