Jonathan Gubbins Does the Desert Disco

Don’t call it a cheater-5.

Jonathan Gubbin’s tuberiding technique might look a little alternative, but it’s actually a highly functional approach. From the front of the board, the surfer is able to both gain and lose speed more easily. Pumping is amplified by the forward weight, while stalling is facilitated by increased balance and the centrality of his position. By standing near the front of his sled, Jonathan uses the entirety of his board’s rocker and concave, giving him a smooth trim through every lengthy pit. All in all, it’s a technically superior way to ride the barrel. You should try it sometime.
