North Shore shaper Eric Arakawa boasts a talented roster of team riders. Andy and Bruce Irons, Michael Ho, Fred Patacchia, Reef McIntosh, and most recently, Jack Robinson, all trust Arakawa’s boards for the North Shore and beyond. Even more telling is their trust in Arakawa’s commitment to relational shaping. The job is short of finished until the shaper knows exactly what the surfer needs under his or her feet, and it’s this rapport he’s developed that always brings world-class talent back to the outskirts of Oahu’s Waialua Sugar Mill for a truly custom experience. We met with Arakawa at his factory to talk about his shaping upbringing, his shop’s evolution, and the uncanny comparison between Andy Irons and Jack Robinson.
