Nazaré is best known for producing the largest rideable waves on the planet. It has also grown synonymous with terms like “massive”, “XXL”, “wipeout”, and “Garrett McNamara.” But what you likely have not seen is footage from the notorious big-wave spot on a day that doesn’t match one of the terms listed above. Days before Brad Domke skimmed the walls of Nazaré, the rest of the Portuguese coastline was dead flat and boring. So Pedro Boonman and crew missioned to Nazaré. Although they had zero expectations, they were greeted with a lineup filled with clean, peeling barrels, the antonym of what one would expect of the place. With drone and water shots of the session, we are all able to imagine what it would be like to gain bragging rights over surfing Nazaré, without actually surfing Nazaré.
